Class Dismissed
Graduating from culinary school gave me more than the ability to prepare a beautiful plate of food. It gave me a deeper understanding of culinary techniques, flavor development, ingredients, and presentation - and how each contributes to the story behind a dish.
That knowledge changed the way I approach food photography. I don’t simply photograph the finished product. I understand the process of creating it, from recipe development and ingredient selection to cooking, plating, and styling.
Combined with my photography and post-processing skills, that training allows me to take a project from the kitchen to the final image. Every detail, from lighting and composition to color and texture, is considered with intention.
As my classmate Walter once said, “You don’t take pictures. You make them.”
Class dismissed. The learning continues…
